From 8 March (International Women’s Day) till the end of the month, Backbench would love to feature articles from writers considering this year’s International Women’s Day theme: #ChoosetoChallenge.

The theme centres on an encouragement to people everywhere to call out gender-based discrimination – however large or small in scale – wherever they find it.

We’d like your submissions, however you choose to interpret this theme. However, if you need a little bit of inspiration, here are some ideas below:

  • Perhaps think about how challenging gender biases can be ‘challenging’ – what are the difficulties that those challenging the status quo face?
  • Or maybe profile an activist or thought leader who you feel is leading the way in choosing to challenge.
  • You could write about subtle gender biases that need to be recognised and challenged.
  • Or you could consider what being an ally means, especially in light of how allies can help challenge discriminatory behaviour.

The choice is really up to you – and any interpretations of the theme are welcome.

Please send in your submissions to editor@bbench.co.uk!
