Write for Backbench

Backbench is the largest open platform current affairs blog in the UK.

The website is broadly designed for people under the age of 30, though we accept articles from people of all ages.

We publish articles on both domestic and foreign politics.

If you’re interested in writing for us, please fill in the contact box and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Do I need to have any experience to write for Backbench?

No, you don’t need any prior writing experience to join. For many of our writers, this is their first experience of journalism.

How often will I be expected to write?

Writers are expected to contribute one article (roughly 800 words in length) a month, though we won’t kick you off the site if you don’t.

Will you edit my articles?

Articles are edited, to ensure our style is consistent. However, we make sure to follow the original text as closely as possible. We also provide feedback on all articles.

Does Backbench have a political standpoint?

Backbench is totally independent – we accept articles from across the political spectrum.
